Currumbin Eco-Parkland Update June 2024

5 June 2024

Planned Burn Notice

Economic Development Queensland (EDQ) in partnership with Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) intend to conduct a planned burn within the Currumbin Eco-Parkland, in the coming months from July to August - weather permitting. Please refer to the map below for the burn location and extent.

Purpose of the Burn: The intent of this small, controlled burn is to reduce the bushfire risk to the adjoining properties in the North of the Currumbin Eco-Parkland in the vicinity of Hoffschildt Drive. The burn will cover an area approximately 1.5 hectares in size.

This planned burn is a crucial component of our hazard reduction and conservation management plan for the area.

By reducing the volume of forest fuels and creating a mosaic pattern of burnt and unburnt areas, we aim to mitigate the intensity of potential wildfires. Additionally, this action will foster favourable conditions for natural forest regeneration.

Smoke Advisory: As a result of the burn, smoke may be visible within the Currumbin area. We understand that this may cause concern, particularly regarding air quality and visibility on roads. We encourage everyone to limit outdoor activities if sensitive to smoke and to keep doors and windows closed to minimise indoor smoke exposure.

Safety Precautions: We prioritise the safety and well-being of our community members and visitors. EDQ will be partnering with QPWS and the Rural Fire Service to ensure all precautions are taken prior to and during the controlled burn.
