BMD CONSTRUCTION UPDATE - Street Renewal Program - Land Surveying

22 January 2025

BMD header

During the Northshore Brisbane Street Renewal Program, BMD will conduct regular surveying activities to support planning and construction.

These activities involve identifying key points, measuring distances, and calculating angles between them. Surveys will be performed both at ground level and from the air to track progress and create models. This will help monitor and manage land volume measurements within and around the work zones.

Aerial Surveying

Aerial surveying will be carried out using a specially designed mapping drone. The drone has a maximum flight time of 30 minutes and can travel at a maximum speed of 50kpm.

Who will carry out aerial surveying?

BMD are accredited with certification issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of Australia (CASA) to carry out aerial surveying of the land area highlighted in the below map. The surveying will be conducted by qualified pilots who are registered with CASA.

Where will the surveying occur?

When operating the drone, the pilot will be located within the highlighted area shown in the below map and will maintain line of sight visibility of the drone.

When will aerial surveying be carried out?

Commencing in November, monthly aerial surveys will be carried out during standard construction work hours. Working hours are Monday to Thursday 6.30 am to 6.00 pm and Friday and Saturday 6.30am to 4.00 pm, excluding public holidays, in accordance with Brisbane City Council work hours.

Will it be noisy?

When the drone is overhead you may hear a low hum sound. BMD use drones with propellers that have been designed to minimise noise as much as possible.
