Economic Development Queensland (EDQ) has appointed BMD as the contractor to deliver the Northshore Brisbane Street Renewal Program.

On 16 September 2024, BMD established a site compound on the corner of Theodore Street and MacArthur Avenue to support upcoming construction activities.

Demolition works

From Monday 30 September 2024 (weather and site conditions permitting), BMD will commence demolition activities to remove K Shed on MacArthur Avenue and Grays Online Shed on Theodore Street.

To ensure public safety, General Exclusion Zones (fenced-off sections) will be in place around K Shed and Grays Online Shed. Please refer to the map below.

The demolition process is expected to take up to 12 weeks and will involve, but not be limited to:

  • Asbestos investigations and safe removal. This staged process includes the removal of external cladding, dismantling the shear roof lattice beams and lowering them to the ground.
  • Removal of external walls, slab and footings.

Roadworks and temporary lane construction

From October 2024, BMD will begin roadworks activities including demolition, earthworks and preloading for future roads as part of Stage 1 of the Street Renewal Program.

As part of these works, BMD plans to construct a temporary lane from Wharf Street to Bincote Street. This temporary lane will deviate local traffic during the closure of MacArthur Avenue, scheduled for Stage 2 of the program. EDQ and BMD are working closely with Brisbane City Council to develop traffic management plans for the temporary lane.

More information on the temporary lane, including a timeframe for construction, will be provided to the community once the works are confirmed and will be available at http://www.yoursay.edq.qld.gov.au/northshore
