Northshore Brisbane update - Street Renewal and Parking (August 2024)
2 August 2024
Street Renewal Program
Economic Development Queensland (EDQ) is excited to share an update on the Northshore Street Renewal Program. This program will enhance community streets, footpaths and bikeways, creating a more connected, cooler, and inviting place for all residents.
The Street Renewal Program will see 20 years of upgrades delivered over the next six years, paving the way to deliver the Brisbane Athlete Village, which will host thousands of athletes and officials during the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. After the Games, the Brisbane Athlete Village will be retained as permanent homes.
Street Renewal Program construction partner
We are pleased to introduce BMD Constructions, who will start early works to deliver the Northshore Brisbane Street Renewal Program.
These early works, starting at the western end of Northshore, predominantly on EDQ land, are expected to begin in August and will include BMD establishing a site compound and commencing demolition activities. Before starting work, a construction notification will be provided with more details on the timing, type of work, location, and potential impacts on the community.
To learn more, you can speak to the EDQ team at a community information session and stay informed about the project by signing up for construction notifications on the Northshore Brisbane Have Your Say website.

About the Street Renewal Program
The Street Renewal Program will be delivered over six years and, once complete, will provide:
- approximately 4 kilometres of new and upgraded roads to improve connections and create inviting streetscapes across Northshore.
- improved access to Kingsford Smith Drive with a new road connection that offers signalised two-way access.
- extensive landscaping with approximately 1,000 new trees and thousands of shrubs planted across Northshore to create cooler streets and promote walking, cycling, and e-mobility.
- access for all with universal design principles and wider than standard verges, increasing comfort and safety for everyone.
- improved flood immunity through raised and graded roads and upgraded drainage.
- separate cyclist and pedestrian facilities for major new streets.
Car Parking
From Monday, 5 August 2024, Dock A Car Park at 92 MacArthur Avenue (northern side of MacArthur Avenue) is permanently closed to allow for the start of construction works. Dock, A Car Park, has been relocated to the southern side of MacArthur Avenue from Monday, 5 August, in Dock A. Car parking remains available in Docks B, C, and D (noting reduced spaces in Dock D due to Bluey’s World attraction). Please see the Northshore Brisbane Have Your Say website for the latest car parking information and maps.
Northshore Brisbane Urban Native Forest
Last year, in a community survey conducted by EDQ, Northshore Brisbane residents ranked tree coverage as the top priority for supporting a more welcoming and cooler environment. This was closely followed by the prioritisation of integrated public spaces, parks, and recreation areas.
The concept of the Northshore Brisbane Urban Native Forest is the realisation of EDQ’s vision to achieve up to 80% shade coverage on footpaths and bikeways by planting native vegetation. The tree species have been selected in consultation with a landscape consultant, Brisbane City Council and a Traditional Owner who specialises in local Indigenous horticulture.
To deliver the Street Renewal Program, some older tree species will need to be removed largely due to poor health or to allow the roads to be raised to achieve flood resilience. EDQ and specialist arborist consultants carefully assessed each tree’s health, and supplementary planting is planned where necessary. This process also identified some trees that can be relocated within the precinct.
Development Update
Following EDQ’s release to the market of a development opportunity of over 4.92 hectares of land at Northshore Brisbane in August 2023, EDQ is progressing plans with interested parties. These include the construction of 201 new social and affordable dwellings by Brisbane Housing Company, a residential aged care home and a range of new apartments.
